Tips for party make-up magic!
Red Faced
Christmas is not the time to be shy with your makeup so if you are not normally a makeup junky now is the time to be brave and try colours you wouldn’t normally go for!
The look for lips for Christmas 2010 is all shades of red, just make sure you choose one that suits your hair colour and skin tone. For the paler skins a la Nicole Kidman Pale go for a red with a blue or brown-undertone, which looks striking against fair skin. Olive-to-dark skins fare well with deeper reds, with brown or tawny bases. This more intense colour is rich against your skin tone. Dark brown skins look dramatic with pinkish reds, strong fuchsias or orange-based poppy reds. Mac, Lancome, Revlon and Bourjois do shades to suit everyone! Play up your eyes with lashings of mascara, remember to curl them before you apply. My favourite eyelash curlers are still by Shu Uemura (£19.50 from Space NK) - giving just the right amount of flirty curl!
Eye-Eye
Quite fancy the guy in Accounts and want to catch his eye at the Christmas party- flutter your lashes away with Eylure Girls Aloud Limited Edition Fake Eyelashes (£4 from Boots) - he won’t be able to resist!
For sexy sultry eyes use light, pale and shimmery eye shadows over the entire eye area first as this really opens-up small eyes, and makes them look bigger. Avoid using dark colours all-over as this draws attention to smaller eyes. Choose shades to suit your eye colour - avoid matching your eye colour to your eye shadow colour, as this will detract from your eyes. Choose deep plums or lilacs for green and blue eyes, and soft gold/copper tones for brown eyes. They will really stand-out! For healthy looking eyes also put in a few drops of Optrex Eye Drops (£3.99 from Boots) - the red eyed look is not sexy!
(Don't) Let it Shine
Shimmer away…. Now is the time to add shimmer from your eyes, cheeks, shoulders to your legs…this will set the look your party night ahead! Choose a couple of areas to highlight but don’t go mad and shimmer all over- you don’t want to be mistaken for a Christmas Tree decoration! For the body there are some beautiful oils and creams with a hint of shimmer , for the eyes try a shimmer eyeliner pen or pencil, for the cheeks use a shimmer cream or powder and suck in those cheekbones before you apply!
Remember.. to make sure you carry your essentials for quick fixes throughout your night! Shine is the dreaded evil of all post xmas party pics so beat the shine with Blotting sheets. Also pop in your handbag concealer, cotton buds for eyeshadow cleanups and your favourite lip gloss to see you through the night.
