Tanning Tips

It’s been a long few dark winter months, but we think the end is in sight – Spring is nearly here  and the sun might soon  come out again..hurray!

However if you’re like us and the thought of getting your ‘milk bottle’ legs out straight away fills you with dread, then it’s time to get ‘tan-tastic!’
Some people worry about fake tan looking streaky or a bit too orange.  There’s no need - follow our top tips and you’ll be  naturally glowing  so no-one will ever know you faked it.

The key to success is in the preparation – don’t get slap dash!

1.    Exfoliate & Moisturise
Exfoliating removes all dead skin, bringing the new skin to the surface. Ideally this should be done a couple of days before application – skin will react better to a regular routine of exfoliating and moisturising. It is important, however, that you do not moisturise just before you apply the tan as this stops your skin from taking it as well.

At KMI we’ve got the ideal products to achieve the perfect pre-tan skin. This Dead Sea Source Body Scrub followed by Beautifully Delicious Papaya & Mango Body Lotion will leave your skin feeling soft, smooth and replenished.

2. Shave/Wax Legs
Shaving the day before your due to tan will not only removed leg hair, it will also remove the top layer of dead skin, leaving new smooth skin which will take the tan much better.

3. Face Wash
If you are tanning your face, then remember to remove all make-up products from the face to ensure it is cosmetic free. Then wash your face to remove last bits of dirt or dead skin. Using a gentle face wash such as Naked Softening Face Wash can help to leave your face smooth without being too harsh to your skin.

4. Wear loose clothing
Ensure your body and face are completely dry before application. It is also strongly advised to wear loose clothing, for example a big t-shirt. This reduces the chance of clothing smudging the tan or leaving marks. It also stops you getting your best clothes stained. A win- win situation!

5. Tanning
When it comes to the actual tanning, one of our favourite self-tans is ‘Xen Tan’. You can choose from a lotion, a mist, a mousse or even bronzing powder.

Our favourite is the Xen Mousse Intense We think a mousse  is easy to apply and this one also moisturises and dries immediately, making it perfect for the nights when you don’t have hours to get ready.

Leave the tan on your body for about an hour, all tans vary so check the instructions on the back for exact times/instructions. Finally don’t forget to moisturise once you have removed the tan. And then you’re done!

We know that everyone has their own special tanning routine, so why not send us in your favourite self-tan tips.  Or, if you’re really brave, tell us about your tanning disasters…..
