As London Fashion Week draws to a close we’ve been keeping our eye out for all the gossip. Our very own insider from a top London department store was there, so we’ve caught up with her to grab some of the best bits:
• JW Anderson – Amazing Mohair knits the shows inspiration “Things that can be borrowed from a man to a woman and from a woman to a man.”
• Holly Fulton - Really fun show to watch, featuring lots of lip prints and art decor. Inspiration for her AW11 collections “Heinz Edelmann, lips and devore”.
• Christopher Kane – One of the most anticipated shows to watch. The show featured a colour palette of blacks, navy’s, greens and touches of red detailing. A far cry from his neon collection for SS11 Main.
• Acne- Again an amazing show, the colour palette being its main attraction and some amazing leather pieces.
• Louise Grey – New designer on the scene, taking inspiration from her heritage; Scotland.
• Pringle of Scotland’s collaboration with Central St Martin’s – Put out advertisements to collect vintage Pringle pieces to create new revived pieces. The collection was together inspirational as well as drawing from the brands heritage and bringing together some new and old exciting tartan pieces
We’ve also had a look at what our favourite fashion sources are talking about and done a quick round up:
TOPSHOP
Topshop Unique models took to the catwalk in the autumn/winter 2011 collection; the inspiration being dogs. Outfits used Dalmatian spots on skirts, shoes & boots and greyhounds were printed on knitwear. The sound of barking dogs only enhanced the theme, with models even having poodle hair do’s.
Aside from their own show, Topshop also sponsor The British Fashion Councils NEWGEN. The scheme nurtures up-and-coming designers by awarding them sponsorship for catwalk, exhibition, presentation and installation opportunities. In an extension from this, Topshop also gives select new designers complete access to the production facility and show in their London Fashion Week catwalk space.
VOGUE
• “Much more serious and very beautiful” about Giles.
• “This will be known as the ‘Liquid Collection’” about Christopher Kane.
• “A modern, clear and directional offering” about Burberry Prorsum.
• “The king of mismatched prints in his element” about Erdem
