KMI Club is off to Tanzania

Rachel Parsonage General manager at KMI and Charlotte Leonard- KMI Accounts Assistant are off to Tanzania on Monday February 21st. They will spend a week visiting Oxfam’s programme in Shinyanga with Kim Shilton - Corporate Partners Manager. They will see the project in Tanzania that KMI brands has funded in 2010/11, with a particular focus on the water and sanitation activities and also activities planned for 2011/12. Visiting schools they will take with them the gifts raised from the Bake and Bobs sale – Gifts which were bought with the money raised include skipping ropes, maps, books, footballs and stationary for the school kids.
Day 1: Tuesday Feb 22nd
• Arrive at Dar Es Salaam International Airport
• Introductions and briefing on the country programmes
Day 2:
• Fly to Shinyanga
• Overview of Shinyanga Programme
• See the water shallow wells under construction and discussion with community members
• Visit Kambarage Teachers Resource Centre
Day 3:
• Visit Primary School in the morning
• Visit another primary school in the afternoon
• Here they will observe water tanks and shallow wells and discuss issues around it with teachers, pupils and village leaders. They will observe the rain water harvesting tank and latrines under construction.
Day 4:
• Visit primary school in Mwenge
• Visit a school with special needs in Buhangija
• At these schools they will observe learner centred teaching and learning in the classroom
Day 5:
• Return to Dar Es Salaam for debriefing with Oxfam
Whilst out there Rachel and Charlotte will meet staff and partners who will be delivering the programme and build a closer relationship, aiming to increase their loyalty and commitment to Oxfam. They will understand what the programme has achieved including both the education, water and sanitation elements.
