Monday February 14th 2011- Valentine’s Day, a day to send admirers cards, roses and chocolates…also a good excuse to bake and cook for someone special! The KMI Team donned their pinnies and got out the sugar icing for an entirely different reason the wkend of Valentines! Sooo what was this all in aid of?!
The Background:
Two KMI Staff members General Manager Rachel Parsonage and Accounts Assistant Charlotte Leonard are visiting the Shinyanga Oxfam Project in Tanzania for a week from February 21st 2011. The focus is on the water and sanitation activities which have gone on through 2010 and 2011 and what is planned for the next two years.
Rachel and Charlotte will be travelling to Dar Es Salaam, Africa with Kim from Oxfam and will be meeting the staff and partners out there who are instrumental in delivering the programme. The purpose of the visit is to build a closer relationship which aims to increase their loyalty and commitment to Oxfam. Rachel and Charlotte want to gain an overview of the programme and to understand what has been achieved, the value of the current project and what can be done for the future. Whilst out there KMI along with the Oxfam team will be visiting schools and meeting schoolchildren who are being helped by the project.
KMI decided to hold a cake and bobs sale to raise money for gifts to take out to the school children. From baking cakes to selling unused household items, jewellery and brand new clothing, money was raised to buy gifts such as pens, paper, books, maps, footballs etc. The sale was open to all of Harlequin House and the cakes looked, smelt and tasted divine! From Blueberry to walnut cake, chocolate muffins to brownies ..the diet was put on hold for another day!
All in all it was a great success and £260 was raised for charity! Thanks to all who worked hard and baked cakes and also a huge thanks to local baker “cavan bakery” who provided some delicious treats too! The Cavan bakery can be found in Teddington and Hampton Hill High street and is a favourite amongst KMI Staff for lunchtime snacks and treats!
We look forward to hearing from Rachel and Charlotte on their travels next week and if you have any questions for the KMI team whilst they are out there please post them to us! Watch this space for news from the KMI/Oxfam camp in Tanzania…
