Everyone is having babies

We can't help but notice many of our friends are having babies, even some of the team at Keep Me Inspired have growing tums, which is fantastic news, but it seems to be a period of baby boom across the UK.
Over the last decade the average number of women giving birth and the size of the family was 1.64 until 2009 when it rose to 1.97. Incredibly 2011 seem to be a bumper year for babies which in turn cause a national shortage of primary school places.

So why all of a sudden have we bit hit with the crazy to start or increase families? Some believe it is to do with the Governments plans to reduce child poverty. In the history of fertility in the UK, records show from the Doomsday book that fertility had a downward spiral. The UK saw a rise in births in the late 1940's and since then it has been quite stable. Some reports show that after Tony Blair became Prime Minister, the UK and parts of Europe saw the biggest baby boom for over 5 years.
What are the predictions for 2012? On the other end of the scale there is a huge amount of people turning 65 in 2012 and the Government will be shelling out huge state pensions. People are living longer.
We believe the baby boom will continue, despite the economy. Generally people are staying in more and having to make their own entertainment!
You have to admit, there is nothing quite like a cute, giggly baby!
