Don't get into a scrape at the end of Movember

Magnum P.I was always having close shaves, just not those of the grooming variety.  Of all the mustached men we know, he has to be one of our favourites.

However, if during Movember, your moustache has been more Groucho Marx than Magnum then you are probably looking forward to a good shave tomorrow.  But after a month without shaving, your skin will be very sensitive.

To help you avoid getting into a nasty scrape on 1st December, we asked experts King of Shaves how best to get rid of that unwanted facial hair.  Barbarella X gave us her top 10 tips:

1. If you try to wet shave a full beard or moustache with just a razor you will clog your blades and nick yourself, a lot!  The easiest way to dispose of long facial hair is to use a Remington beard trimmer or hair clipper. Use the trimmer to remove as much hair as possible.

2. Then rinse your face with warm water.

3. After you remove your beard the skin that has been hiding under all that fuzz is going to be extremely dry and sensitive. I suggest preparing your skin prior to wet shaving again by showering in warm water first, or steam your face with a small towel soaked in hot water.  This softens the beard and relaxes your facial muscles.

4. Then moisturise your face with an alcohol free after shave lotion.

5. For this first shave, Barbarella suggests doubling up on product - layer King of Shaves AlphaGel over AlphaOil for intense lubrication, increased skin protection and enhanced results.  AlphaOil Cooling is formulated to soften, moisturise, condition, and protect skin while shaving. A blend of the highest quality essential oils combined with the naturally refreshing coolness of menthol, Alpha Oil doesn’t contain soaps, alcohol or dyes, which can rob skin of its natural moisture and can contribute to dry and irritated skin.

6. Then, using a clean razor, shave in the direction of beard growth. Let the razor glide over the skin without excessive pressure. Start at the sideburns and work down each side of the face toward the chin.

7. To shave the area under the nose, push the nose upwards with one finger, shaving sideways across the top lip. Always shave in the direction of the beard growth below the jaw line. With your free hand, feel around the face for any missed hairs and repeat if necessary.

8. Once you have shaved your entire beard in this way, try shaving again ‘across the grain’ to get a super smooth shave. For example, if a hair grows ‘north-to-south’ then ‘across-the-grain’ means you shave from east-to-west or west-to-east.  However, never shave against the grain, as this can cause ingrown hairs and shaving irritations.

9. After shaving rinse the face with cool water and apply an alcohol-free post shave lotion.

10. Finally, only apply cologne to the sides of the neck and chest as the alcohol can irritate your skin especially if you plan to wear a collared shirt.

So, if you're looking forward to experiencing a close shave, then just follow these 10 tips.  However, if you've enjoyed releasing your inner Magnum, maybe the moustached look will be here to stay??
