Awards Round Up

The first 72 hours of the week have been very busy ones in the land of 'Celebrity' with the BAFTA’S, BRIT Awards and the GRAMMYs all within days of each other. Here at KMI we love to keep up with all the showbiz gossip so we’ve done a quick round up of our best bits!

BRIT Awards
Winners:
Tinieh Tempah & Arcade Fire were the biggest winners, with two awards each. Tinieh was the most nominated artist, going on to win half of these – Best British Breakthrough Act and Best Single; while Arcade Fire scooped Best International Group and Best International Album.

Folk music was a bit of a winner in it’s own right with Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons making their marks.

It wasn’t just the winners themselves that stole the show for us.  Adele’s performance was one of our favourite moments of the night (anyone else get a bit emotional or was it just us?), and of course what girl (or bloke for that matter) would want to miss style icons and all-round gorgeous ladies Rhianna and Cheryl Cole being on stage together.

Other winners were..
British Female Solo Artist – Laura Marling
British Male Solo Artist – Plan B
Best British Group – Take That
MasterCard British Album of the Year – Mumford & Sons
International Female - Rhianna
International Male – Cee Lo Green
International Breakthrough – Justin Bieber
Critic’s Choice – Jessie J

Best Dressed:
Cheryl Cole definitely stood out, even without winning an award, in a backless black dress which was slashed high revealing a lot of leg. Rhianna's outfit on stage was breathtaking (and minimal), whilst off the stage she went for two outfits, which were 'traditional ballgown' in shape, but the choice of fabrics and colours made them absolutely bang-up-to-date - especially this bright little number!

GRAMMY AWARDS
Winners:
Lady Antebellum was a big winner of the night taking 5 awards including record & song of the year. They were up against tough competition in all categories including Bruno Mars, Rhianna, Cee Lo Green and Eminem. Arcade Fire were another group who came out on top scooping ‘Album of the Year’ over Eminem, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.

Other winners included..
Best Female Pop Vocal Performance - Lady Gaga (Bad Romance)
Best Male Pop Vocal Performance – Bruno Mars (Just The Way You Are)
Best Pop Vocal Anthem – Lady Gaga (The Fame Monster)
Best Dance Recording – Rhianna (Only Girl)

Best Dressed:
Metallic’s like gold’s, blues and silvers were a popular colour choice for gowns with many celebs opting for plunging and low-cut necklines or sheer/cut-out sections. The most stand-out outfit choice went to the usual Lady Gaga who arrived in a semi see through egg. However a rather surprising close second was Nicki Minaj wearing head-to-toe leopard print.

BAFTA AWARDS
Winners:
The King’s Speech was by far the biggest winner of the night taking home seven awards including: Outstanding British Film, Leading Actor (Colin Firth) and Supporting Actor & Actress (Geoffrey Rush/Helena Bonham Carter).

Other winners were..
Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema – The Harry Potter Films
Animated Film – Toy Story 3
Film Not in the English Language – The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Best Dressed:
Beige was a popular choice along with the classic black, meaning those who opted for brighter choices really stood out. There were definitely two distinct style camps - jewel colours vs muted look. Most stars choose full length gowns with one shoulder and strapless designs being the most popular.

In terms of make-up, understated eyes with a bright red lippy combo seemed one of the biggest trends of the night and in our minds, no one rocked this look more than Jessica Alba. Jessica wasn’t only leading the trend with make-up, she also donned the ‘wrap-around plait’ - topped as a big ‘up-do’ trend this summer.

So, we've had a great celebrity fix this week.  Roll on the Oscars!
