For the first time in years the sales of Nail Varnish and nail related products has overtaken the sales of lipstick. This year has been great for nails, with the introduction of new products which create incredible effects on your claws. High Street and on-line beauty stores have seen a 37% increase of nail related product sales this year and the trend is still growing.

So, if you're following the nail revolution or want to be part of the party, its the perfect time to get those nails in great condition for the party season. DIY manicures are now the nations favourite beauty treat, so lets start with the basics.
- Soak your hands to soften the cuticles around your nails
- Dry your hands well
- Take a cuticle stick and carefully push your cuticles back
- Take a small pair of nail scissors or clippers and carefully cut any long pieces of cuticle back so the skin is neat and free of any loose skin
- Cut your nails into a desired shape, either square or oval
- Take an emery board and in one direction file the nail to a smooth finish
- Now its time to decorate!
- You can choose a base coat which will provide nourishment to your nail and allow the polish to sit perfectly
- Allow each coat to dry properly, otherwise one smudge will ruin your hard work
- Choose your colour, you may have to apply two coats of this, try not to place the colour too close to the base of the nail
- Finally when the colour is dry you can use a top coat to give a really glossy look and protect the polish from chipping
- When everything is dry, grab your favourite hand cream and slather on for ultimate moisture, and dot a few drops of cuticle oil over your cuticles to keep them nourished.
