Celebrate the Chinese New Year in style

Happy Chinese New Year! Here at the KMI office we can’t resist a good old celebration, and with it being a Monday in the middle of January it couldn’t come at a better time. It’s the perfect excuse for a little pick-me-up and with 2012 being the Year of the Dragon, a year that’s said to bring power and riches (who wouldn’t like a little bit more of that?), we thought we’d take a look at a few ways you can celebrate the Chinese New Year in style.

  • Go red. Red is a particularly significant colour for the season with it being said to ward away evil spirits and bad fortune, and when you combine that with the fiery and fiercely independent nature of dragons you’ve got yourself a colour powerhouse. And besides, who can resist a good dollop of red lippie? Invest in a stunning new lipstick, nail varnish or just whip out your favourite reds and transform your look into one that’s perfect for Chinese New Year.

  • Treat yourself. Traditional Chinese New Year festivities are often centred squarely on food (we could get used to this…) with sweet treats filling the homes of those celebrating, so why not treat yourself? Be on the lookout for recipes you can whip up when you get home, or if all else fails just get a takeaway—OK, so it’s not ideal, but you’re celebrating in your own way.

  • Experiment with makeup. Celebrations are the perfect opportunity to try new makeup styles, and if you really want to go all-out you could get inspiration straight from Chinese New Year traditions. Think fiery reds and sultry golds, add a bit of glitter for extra impact, or if you’ve got an ultra-steady hand you could even try this look out for size:

Amazing!
